GEO 6118 - Research Design

Course Overview

Introduces non-thesis-track Master’s students to the essentials of designing and executing a research project in the environmental sciences using the scientific method. Students will design and complete a research project.

Student Learning Objectives (SLOs)

  • Apply environmental science methods in solving a significant real-world problem.
  • Develop research and carry out an independent research project.
  • Critically evaluate the academic literature in a subfield of environmental science.
  • Present research work in oral, written, and graphic forms.

  • Annotated Bibliography: 30%
  • Final Research Report: 40%
  • Participation: 30%
    • Summaries of papers read/question responses: 10%
